Non-fired building materials: Why do not come into life?

25/04/2017

Since the Government issued the Decision No. 567/QD-TTg on the development program of non-fired building materials, many enterprises have invested machinery and equipment to produce. However, so far, the number of non-fired building materials used in the works is still limited.
There are many reasons why these types of materials are difficult to get into the workplace, including consumer habits as well as the characteristics of each product being used differently.

Many companies have currently invested modern
non-fired building material production lines.

Habits and costs

Why can’t non-fired building materials come to life? Many people think that it is due to habits of people. Right! But not totally true. Habits can still change over time as people understand the harmful effects of using clay bricks in construction. In addition, when using non-fired bricks in the wrong technical process has created cracks causing distrust for the user.

Over the past five years, the Government and the Ministry of Construction have made great efforts in developing the legal framework, as well as raising awareness of people on the benefits of using non-fired building materials. However, the source of clay for producing fired bricks in our country is easy to exploit, and the cost of fired bricks is cheaper that makes non-fired building materials difficult to compete. At present, there are only some types of large-sized block bricks, which have advantages in terms of price. Solid bricks and especially light bricks, which still have higher price than fired bricks. In addition, the craftsmanship of the builders is accustomed to the use of bricks from many generations with simple tools. Meanwhile, the construction of non-fired building materials is more complex from the skills of workers to construction tools. If construction is not in accordance with the technical process, works are susceptible to errors, cracking...

Mr. Tran Ba Viet - Deputy Director of the Institute of Science and Construction Technology, the Ministry of Construction, said that there are many causes for cracking of the bird's foot or walls when using non-fired building materials. In which the walls  are cracked due to improper shims, improper conner connections, or improper joints ... To prevent cracking through the walls, the bricks must meet the moisture below 30% when building walls, and the span of the wall is not more than 4m, the height of the brace is not more than 2 - 2.4m.

Necessary to classify purposes of using

According to Dr. Tran Van Huynh - Former Chairman of Vietnam Building Materials Association, non-fired bricks have 3 main categories including: blocks (cement aggregate bricks); Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) and foam concrete bricks. There are also other types of non-fired building materials but the number is not significant. In spite of difference in terms of ingredients and production methods, these products have the same advantages such as speeding up the construction; reducing the cost of foundation construction; saving energy ... However, each type is used in different works, as well as different users.

Therefore, Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Chanh - Head of Building Materials Section, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology said that, to make non-fired building materials come into life, non-fired bricks should be classified, but it cannot be generally said non-fired building materials, because each type is used for different works and places. It needs to introduce to the particular users, not generally speaking. "Market analysis must be used to classify who the users are. For example, cement aggregate bricks, Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) and foam concrete bricks... must be sorted out because using them in wrong function may cause the damage. When designing, it must use their functions and purpose properly. The characteristic of the ACC brick is porous, and thermal insulation, for that reason, they must be used in right functions", Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Chanh analyzed.

According to Associate Prof. Dr. Chanh, another reason why non-fired building materials is difficult to enter the market that is because of estimating the price for building square meters. In oversea countries, there are no economic norms for labor, but there are only norms for quality and acceptance. Therefore, in the previous time, the light brick production enterprises are mainly selling to foreign countries because of no norms as in Vietnam. In those countries, they do works firstly and then calculate the budget later. However, in our country, the amount of money for construction is approved firstly then the construction is implemented later. Cost norms are the normative mechanism, foreign countries do not have that mechanism but belong to the work volumes. "At the moment, designing and approving our designs phrases are stuck, so that the works are designed sufficiently, they are not approved by the authorities, but if the design is approved, the works use non-guaranteed materials. Therefore, in order to bring the non-fired building materials into life, it is necessary to classify each material to put them into the market reasonably. Overcoming the drawbacks and cost norms, these materials will have good businesses. Selling them to people needed, not just launch them into the market in general. ACC bricks are only classified for reasonable works, the norms are based on the finished products, not on the building square meter, "Assoc. Nguyen Van Chanh added.

The International Exposition on Technologies and Products for Energy saving and Environment protection in Hai Phong city in 2017(E&E Expo Hai Phong 2017) taking place from November 29th to December 2nd 2017 at Viet-Tiep Friendship Labor Cultural Palace, Lach Tray Ward, Ngo Quyen District, Hai Phong City.
Why do not exploit the potential of renewable energy?
Vietnam is considered as a country with great potentials for renewable energy development but it is still in a potential form that has not yet been exploited
Non-fired building materials: Why do not come into life?
Utilizing the waste of coal-fired power plants
According to preliminary calculations, a coal-fired power plant with a capacity of 1,200 MW daily emits about 4,000 tons of fly-ash cinder, of which, there are 85% of fly-ash.
Setting priority for clean energy investment
Vietnam would increase its attractiveness in foreign investment by developing green energy. That is the confirmation of many delegations attending the meeting on the free trade agreement between Europe and Vietnam organized by the European Business Association in Vietnam.
The green growth – The only way
According to Mr. Nguyen The Phuong, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in order to develop renewable energy for green growth, the government should support electricity price from renewable energy because of higher price than thermal electricity, and hydroelectric.
Recycling waste – a resource has been left open
The recycling and reuse of waste resources are trends applied in many countries, contributing to environmental protection and resource savings. However, the recycling waste has not now been adequately paid attention.
The Government encourages investment in renewable energy
Striving to the year of 2030, electricity production in Vietnam from renewable energy will account for 30% of the national energy structure. Therefore, the Government encourage investment in renewable energy.
